Scuba diving is like Property Investment
Scuba diving is like investing in property, especially if you are on a dive cruise, you will need exceptional communications, manage your resources (kit, time and energy) and the ability to adapt to change. This is one of a number blogs on one of my favourite subjects, scuba diving. There is something so relaxing about being totally weightless in warm water listening only to the sounds of your own breathing as the bubbles pass by your ears. One hour of beautiful and sometimes unexpected sights is the perfect tonic to relax your mind, body and soul. To see more of what I mean check out my pictures on Faceboook.

I have to say that my thoughts are so clear, even more perceptive, and insightful as the clarity of the water rinses away everything that is not relevant. And of course the added bonus of the freedom from mobiles and emails!! Really it’s the perfect place to work except you are there to be on holiday.
Scuba diving often brings you together with total strangers that all share the same passion. Having said that you still get a comprehensive range of people, all ages, all backgrounds, including of course some very nice people and then some slightly stranger people
, those interested in the technology of diving, those who like the ‘toys’ that a diver can collected, like torches, cameras, slates (they are called Christmas Tree divers because of all the baubbles they hang from their suits), novices and professionals.
Whether you are diving from the shore, taking a variety of day boat trips or on a full cruise you will be brought into close contact with a random selection of people. It is like a permanent networking party and requires all your communication skills. Some people are relaxed, some are stressed, some are talkative and some very quiet, some are travelling alone and others come in groups from 2-10. The choice is yours; you can get to know everyone, you can stay quietly by yourself, you can make lifetime friends, you could also allow yourself to get irritated – it is always up to you.
It’s like that in Property Investment; you can choose to work alone, work in partnership or be part of a team, you can be outgoing and outward facing or you and your business can be quiet and reserved. The most important thing about both diving and investing is to be comfortable and in your flow. By that I mean you need to feel that you are not forced to be something you are not, you are relaxed and it comes easily, that you work within the range of your knowledge and risk levels. That doesn’t mean that you don’t need to work hard, it does mean that you work on the things that matter. It does mean that you continuously grow and develop, as I have through a variety of training (see the links below). I always use the example that if you are a ‘chatter box’ don’t become a librarian, if you are someone who prefers numbers and paperwork to people maybe a sales job is not the right area for you.
When diving; relax, take slow, deep and regular breaths, then put your energy where it is needed either taking the perfect photo, enjoying a current, or perfecting your buoyancy. When investing in property; take deep slow and regular breaths then consider where you need to put your energy is it marketing (fill that funnel), sales (and negotiation), systems, or finance. Use you natural skills to the best of your ability, and find the right team to dive with. Find those that can compliment your skills and build your property business – because it is a business not a hobby
