If anything, I struggle with opportunity overload and have to work hard at remaining focused, but a phone call on Tuesday was definitely an opportunity to be grabbed with both hands.

A couple of years ago Bob bought me membership to the Historic Royal Palaces (Hampton Court, Tower of London, Kensington, Kew and Mansion House). It coincided with my daughter and I reading stories about the Boleyn sisters, one of which was Ann who married Henry the 8th.

It has been the best gift ever! We have renewed for three years now and as members visit the Palaces for free whenever we want, we have been to exclusive book launches, talks and even a roof top tour of Hampton Court.

I wanted to book to see the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London but it is always so popular I have never been quick enough. Tuesday was our lucky day. Someone had dropped out and so HRP called to ask if I would like to go that evening – absolutely YES!

What an experience – a tradition that has been taking place for 700 years – unchanged even during bad weather and bombing raids. History is a brilliant way to reflect on what people have done in the past – what went well – for us to observe the consequences of certain actions or inactions – I love it. Bob quickly identified ways that we could make the Ceremony more time efficient and I have plans to make it even more of a customer experience – haa haa.

While lined up to watch the salute and passing of The Queens Keys – I turned to my right and spoke to the lady next to me, mostly because she had crossed the line and was in danger of being “shot” by the Yeoman in charge J I recognised her as an actress (sorry can’t name her) which made me look more closely at the man standing with her and next to me … OMG (I have to say that!) JUDE LAW!

And that’s where I missed an opportunity – not only did I not pounce on him – he is very good looking (almost as good looking as my Bob – but not quite), but I lacked the courage to ask for a photograph. My ideal shot sandwiched between Jude Law and a Yeoman…..still the Chief Yeoman of the guard was very accommodating.

There are some opportunities that we seize and others for various reasons pass us by or we are not ready to take them …. I know this year is full of opportunities for all of us if we just watch for them. The question is – are you ready to make the most of them?

What opportunities have you had? Or even have you created so far?
