I thought I was an adventurer, I am an adventurer! Then when did I become too scared to ice skate ! We went ice skating in Slough with the nieces-in-law (in common law ?!?) aged 3 and 4 years old.
I took one look at the speed of the other (very professional) skaters and decided that I wasn’t going on the ice. I think it all start last December when for one of our regular get ‘togethers’ the girls who used to work for me and I decided that the Christmas meet would be ice skating and mulled wine. Good idea. I even managed to pull off a ‘weather witch’ moment and stop the rain.
I have skated before, I can ski (reasonably well) I can skate board (just about and only in one direction), all of a sudden I lost the confidence to skate.

It’s a bit like that in business sometimes – we know we know how to – we have even done it before … but then all of a sudden something comes along to shake our faith in ourselves. Well the big fear at the moment of course is the recession … it’s all doom and gloom, job losses, pay freezes, big companies – institutions like Woolies closing down ….

It takes courage, skill, confidence and a supportive team round you to survive and thrive this recession. if you work alone like me then this can be tough. That’s why I joined Ecademy back in June 07 … well part of the reason was that I hear one of the founders Thomas Power speak with such passion about networking, social networking and social media that I was drawn to this group of business men and women.

Ecademy is both online and offline networking. It is build on the principles that Penny Power the other founder lay down and champions. Relationships are built from the principle of know me, like me, follow me. In fact that is the title of her new book due out in the summer.

With Penny and Thomas guiding the way – this business forum, social network, Ecademy …. is built on supportive relationships – not pushing yourself or sales, its about advocacy and giving back.
