I just discovered ……
I just discovered the ‘perfect !?!?!?!’ time to catch up on some blogging. Its 02.39am and I have just woken to the sound of birds song (a blackbird I believe) in the hot spare room of a friend’s house. I am staying with friends while viewing some new properties. After a busy day looking speaking to estate agents and vendors I settled down for a good night sleep on the sofa bed.
I started to fidget about fifteen minutes ago because I was too hot and having thrown off the duvet became aware of the dawn chorus. I couldn’t settle down and my mind started to work, so I decided to get up and get a drink of water and then leave my door open to let some of the heat out of my room. I settled back down to sleep. The lone bird song was now even louder as I had opened the window. That was okay because I decided I was lucky to be able to hear such a sweet song and that’s when it started. It took me a while to realise what it was, a noise I hadn’t heard since I lived at home! The sound of snoring
my friend’s partner is snoring in the room next door (my father used to snore). I was faced with a dilemma as we often are in life. My choices; one close the door and fry in the heat of the under floor heating, or feel the cool breeze and fresh air waft over me in time to the rhythm of the snores
As I gradually became more and more awake I thought I may as well get up and start writing as I have just thought of, and in a way dreamed up, a very useful new business game I could jot down. Having made the decision I went to the kitchen and collected my laptop from the table where it was charging and here I am capturing my mid-night experience for posterity
I believe there are three secrets to success whether it’s in Property Investment, business, finance or life; first to recognise and seize every opportunity that presents its self (even if the timing sucks) the second is to be able to adapt to change and the third to make sure the numbers add up. This is a lesson in ‘opportunity identification’. How many times in the past had I lain in bed thinking incredible ideas only to not remember them in the morning ? Too many times! How many times had I thought of witty, insightful blogs only for them to sound less impressive when I finally got up?? Too many !!
No more! Instant download. Flip open the laptop – write by the light of the screen, get it off my chest and then retire 30 minutes later with my best thoughts neatly captured for posterity and saved to the laptop (obviously I will need to carefully read it and spot all typos
in the morning).
Even the picture on the desktop of the laptop could be titled ‘seize an opportunity’. It shows me sitting on the deck of our Egyptian safari dive boat having been left behind as the zodiac left for the dive site with a full load of divers. I seized the moment to catch the rays and get in a sneaky bit of sunbathing while waiting for my dive buddy and others to get ready so we could dive Daedelus dive site in the Red Sea
Do you ever reflect on the opportunities that you have let slip through your fingers, how many times have you thought about doing something and then an opportunity arose and you dismissed it because the timing wasn’t right. Entrepreneurs recognise opportunities (create opportunities), seize them, ACT!
……Aahhh! is that the sound of silence? Has that pesky bird stopped singing! Has the snoring really stopped!!! I can’t miss this opportunity!…. I am back off to sleep
