I won’t be labelled!

Posted by:

I’d like to think I am emotionally resilient, that I am a well-rounded and emotionally stable individual … Maybe I am ….maybe I am not … maybe the jury is still out.

I recently spent an amazing couple of days at a training course to focus on growing my business, after all this is a double dip recession and the time when multi- million business grow. The content was powerful and insightful, my notes copious.

What I had not bargained ...

Introduced as my father’s new wife: Give a customer what they want

My father has a mischievous streak, a great sense of humour and a low boredom threshold. So while we were waiting to buy coffee the other day, a simple coffee order turned into one of our banter / debating sessions. We started to discuss in a reasonably animated style why I wanted my coffee in a take away cup when we were actually planning to sit inside and drink our drinks in the coffee shop! After making my point I ...

Customer service – placing an advert.

Customer service – placing an advert.

My father was planning for the Christmas rush and decided that he would buy a full page paper advert. He spoke to a contact there and agreed an editorial to accompany the advert. The paper said they would send a journalist. Seven days passed by and no-one came. Then after ten days he was about to call the paper again, when the journalist arrived. They carried out the interview and the journalist said he would return with the proof the ...

Communication is sending and receiving

Communication is sending and receiving

Like the concept that profit is a composite of income minus expenses I also believe that communication is the composite of sending and receiving (including checking receipt) of information.

As a scuba diver we learn a series of hand signals to cover most emergency situations. As you can imagine, if you have ever meet me that, not talking for hours on end repeatedly throughout the day becomes ...

Are you queuing for the exit?

Posted by:

I have been travelling into London by train quite a lot lately and I am totally fascinated by the whole process. It’s odd I used to travel every day on the train and of course once you run your own business there is not always a set pattern to your day like there was when you were an employee.

I heard a news story about a man that had created a table that showed commuters exactly what carriage to use to ...

The macro – micro of diving – you need both in business

Posted by:

I am sure you know how much I love scuba diving. Each time I dive I become aware of the styles and experience of other divers in our group, as this changes with each holiday. It’s a bit like underwater observation.

Where Bob and I love to take photographs and our preference is for close ups of small an interesting images our diving style is a more micro approach – we get close to the reefs and swim very very slowly.Continue Reading →

Deleting messages what about conversations

Posted by:

I was going through my phone the other day deleting old text messages. I like a tidy inbox :)

It is quite easy to delete a text message or even and email – just a click of a button. But what about the meanings and the feelings that were associated with them.

I was recently at an event where a presenter asked the audience to carry out a test. Most of us did. I did – of ...

When luxury is worth £4.50 per night

Posted by:

When we first looked at travelling to Thailand my daughter sent over details of a possible schedule. I checked out the hotel options on trip advisor. One suggestion PrikThai was reported to be in the middle of the bars and the competing noise was too much even for ear plugs …… I started to look for more options.

I came across Sabai Sabai – it was a ten minute walk down the beach, “nestled in a small valley of coconut trees” ...

Focusing on the negative

Posted by:

When we transferred from the beautiful and laid back Island of Koh Tao to the raw exploitation and commercialism of Koh Samui it was hard not to focus on the negative. The change so dramatic. The impact so harsh. The blatant selling of women in the bars to old European and Russian men shocking.

For all my positive thinking and understanding of how the mind works – I found myself focused on the negative – noticing the difference –

Sales – how do your customers get to engage with you

Posted by:

My first thought on this topic is pure and simple; email, phone, Facebook, text or Twitter. Where do you customers hang out and can they get hold of you if they need to? Can they get hold of you in their preferred method?

I wanted to speak to my website guy about a mess I made when updating ThePropertyMemaid.com website (you should never let a Digital Muppet near technology), and I could not find his ...
